With all online marketing opportunities business’ can be broken down into 3 categories;

With Social Media, we’re looking at relatively early-stage marketing development which is still in its infancy. Think of the current Twitter as being pre-Adwords, it seems decades ago, but we are only talking 8 years since Google launched their advertising strategy… At present, we’re all on a level playing field, and innovation is key like with any marketing involvement.
So, with your current marketing procedures, where do you stand regarding Social Media?
If you’re in the 1st category, you’re probably already realising the potential impact customer communication through Social Media can have on your business. You can cast an ear to all Twitter conversations to build client relationships. You can build a “following” by simply following the simple marketing rule of giving your customers what they want.
My concern with any business owner that sits scratching their head regarding how THEY can jump on the Social Media bandwagon is this…. We’re Not Talking Rocket Science.
Social Media follows the closely guarded principles of traditional offline media. You interact with your customers, you use simple high impact messages to communicate your offering, you are a few clicks from making direct connection with 1000′s of potential customers, so why stick your head in the sand?
Furthermore, if you’ve opened your twitter account and can’t think of information to pass on to your potential customers, does this reflect far greater on your overall marketing strategy?
Whatever your competitors are doing through Social Media, you’re not too far behind. You need to embrace the technology, understand it and utilise it. Take inspiration from the potential effectiveness of your competitors online strategy. Think of Twitter, Facebook, Myspace etc as your booth at a trade exhibition. What can you do and say to drive customers your way? Social Media allows you to grow that booth as the days go on, inviting more and more conversations, more and more business opportunities.
Take another look at your unused twitter account and give your customers what they are looking for!
